Kelowna General and Vernon Jubilee Hospitals required significant expansion and modernization of their outpatient services to meet growing healthcare demands in the region. The primary challenge was to execute construction and facility upgrades within active hospital environments, ensuring that patient care, staff operations, and critical infrastructure remained fully operational. The integration of new patient care towers and expanded services had to occur without disrupting existing workflows while meeting stringent healthcare compliance and safety standards. Additionally, managing the transition of plant services personnel and aligning with Interior Health Authority protocols added layers of logistical and operational complexity.

The Results

The successful deployment of Black & McDonald’s facility management services enabled both Kelowna General and Vernon Jubilee Hospitals to expand and modernize outpatient operations with minimal disruption. Key achievements include maintaining uninterrupted hospital services, minimizing staff displacement, and consistently exceeding operational performance targets over more than eight years in service. With over 53,500 sq.m of floor space, two patient care towers, and a 180-seat lecture theatre, the hospitals now benefit from streamlined maintenance, responsive tenant service, and enhanced infrastructure reliability.
